A new research project aims to identify Hg sources in Greenland - including from thawing permafrost

Congratulation to Jens Søndergaard for taking lead in the search for mercury (Hg) sources to the Arctic by using stable Hg isotopes. An urgent input to international monitoring and regulation! The project MINAMATA is funded by The Danish Environmental Protection agency from 2021-2024 and will include permafrost samples from the CENPERM permafrost archive. Permafrost samples from peat lands are ideel to explore Hg sources from the atmosphere over time.
